A powerful story of compassion and initiative has unfolded in Bayelsa State, as National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Brown-Ofoeme Ebubechukwu Prosper (BY/24B/2451) delivered an inspiring public education transformation at Community Primary School, Swali, Yenagoa Local Government Area.
The turning point came when Brown-Ofoeme, during a routine visit, was struck by the grim realities facing pupils: lessons conducted in flooded, roofless classrooms, children drenched by rainfall, desperately shielding their books, and learning amid broken windows, missing doors, and exposed ceilings. The sight left a lasting impression, compelling him to pivot from his original Community Development Service (CDS) project focused on anti-cultism to addressing the school’s dire infrastructural needs.

Mobilizing resources through community engagement and the generous support of kind-hearted contributors, Brown-Ofoeme embarked on a thorough renovation of four decrepit classroom blocks, including the school’s administrative office. The project saw the installation of new roofing to protect against harsh weather, new PVC ceilings, 9 sturdy doors, and 24 windows—completely overhauling what had been a neglected, decaying learning environment.
The transformation also encompassed a fresh coat of paint inside and out, further brightening the classrooms and instilling a renewed sense of hope and dignity. Where children once braved soggy, flooded spaces now stands a vibrant, secure, and comfortable school—demonstrating the positive impact of collective will and one individual’s determination to leave a lasting legacy.

Brown-Ofoeme’s initiative has turned Community Primary School, Swali, into a shining example of what is possible when empathy meets decisive action, giving pupils a safe, nurturing space to thrive and dream once again.
