Rabat, Morocco – Nigeria’s reigning world record holder, Tobi Amusan, delivered a commanding performance at the Rabat Diamond League on Sunday, emphatically winning the women’s 100m hurdles with a blazing Season’s Best (SB) of 12.45 seconds (wind reading +1.2 m/s). Her dominant display not only secured her first major victory of the 2025 season but also shattered the previous meeting record of 12.51s, set by American Brianna McNeal in 2018.

Amusan, often dubbed “The Amazon” for her formidable presence on the track, showcased renewed focus and precision, leaving her competitors well behind. Her time of 12.45s marks a significant leap in her season, positioning her as a formidable contender for upcoming major championships, including the World Championships in Tokyo.
The 28-year-old Nigerian star finished a clear distance ahead of the field. Nadine Visser of the Netherlands claimed second place with a time of 12.67s, while Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska secured third in 12.69s. Swiss athlete Ditaji Kambundji rounded out the top four, clocking in at 12.71s.
This victory is a crucial turning point for Amusan, who had a somewhat subdued start to her 2025 campaign with two successive fourth-place finishes at the Xiamen and Shanghai Diamond League meets earlier in May. Speaking after her impressive win, Amusan attributed her success to a strategic shift in her training. “More hurdles practice, because I had been doing more sprinting,” she explained. “After the first two Diamond League meetings, I knew I had to go back to doing more hurdle drills. Two weeks in, I can tell the difference.”
Amusan’s triumph in Rabat sends a powerful message to her rivals and signals her intent to reclaim her status at the pinnacle of women’s sprint hurdling. Nigerian athletics enthusiasts will undoubtedly be watching with anticipation as she continues to build momentum throughout the season.
