Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed his condolences to the family of the late Major-General Adeyinka Adebayo, former Military Administrator of the defunct Western Region, following the death of Chief Mrs. Modupe Adebayo. She passed away on March 8, coinciding with the eighth anniversary of her husband’s death.

In his condolence message, Governor Abiodun praised Mrs. Adebayo as a woman of remarkable intellect and faith who supported her husband during his distinguished military career. He highlighted her significant contributions to Nigeria’s history, particularly during her husband’s tenure as Military Administrator and in other key positions such as Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy and Chief of Army Staff.
The governor noted that Mrs. Adebayo played a vital role in the development of Ekiti State after the return to civilian rule in 1999, which included supporting her son, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, in becoming the first democratically elected governor of the state.
Governor Abiodun remarked, “Though her passing at 85 is a sorrowful event, we are grateful for a life well-lived. Mama Modupe Adebayo’s legacy as a patriot and wise counselor has left an indelible mark on our democratic journey.” He extended his prayers for her eternal rest and commiserated with the Adebayo family during this difficult time.
