Edo State House of Assembly, on resumption of plenary today, committed the Bill for a legal framework for the establishment of the Edo State Oil Palm program for the development of the Edo state Oil Palm Industry and other connected purposes to its committee on Agriculture and Food Security after debating on the merits and demerits.
Leading the debate on the merits of the Bill, member Representing Ovia North East(1) and majority leader of the House, Hon Charity Aiguobarueghian said the Bill is timely as it will be a stitch in time due to its importance as it was the mainstay before the Advent of Crude Oil.
Hon Charity Aiguobarueghian said in time past, the Benin kingdom flourished in Agriculture especially Palm Oil and other derivatives.
He called for the support of Other members towards the passage of the bill for the success of the industrialization drive of the state.
In their contributions, members representing Esan South East, Hon Osezua Sunday Ojiezele; Esan North East (2), Hon Maria Edeko Esq and Esan North East (1), Hon Emakhu Isibor Adeh were of the view that this Bill when passed, would create job opportunities for the teeming youths, create wealth for the farmers, and ensure orderliness in the Palm produce business.
Summing up the debate, the Speaker, thanked members for the robust deliberations and committed it to the Committee on Agriculture and Food Security for further legislative action.
Also during plenary, the house received a petition from Charles A Asemota & co dated July 26th July, entitled “Re- sponsoring of community crisis, a threat to life and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and Order” by one Pastor Solomon Folorunsho in Uhuogua community.
The petition was referred to the public petitions to report back in two weeks.
The House observed a minute silence in honor of the late First female Senator, Princess Franca Afegbua after a personal explanation by the Member Representing Etsako East, Hon Kingsley Ugabi. The Speaker eulogized the late Senator Franca Afegbua.
Rt Hon Blessing Agbebaku announced the presence of the National Association of Political Science Students, University of Benin in the gallery, who came to Observe the plenary.
The House thereafter adjourned to Tuesday, 1st of August, 2023.
