The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC, has recorded zero voluntary resignations among its employees for the second consecutive year.
The company attributed the development to staff confidence in its future, career opportunities, job security and its ongoing transformation into a commercially driven energy company.
The figure means that, for two consecutive years, no employee voluntarily resigned from the company, according to the latest information released by NNPC.
WHY STAFF ARE STAYING
NNPC linked the retention figure to what it described as growing confidence among employees in the company’s direction. It pointed to career opportunities and job security as factors encouraging employees to remain within the organisation.
The development comes as NNPC continues its transition from its traditional role as a national oil corporation towards a commercially focused energy company.
A FIGURE THAT NEEDS CONTEXT
Zero voluntary resignations does not mean NNPC has had no changes in its workforce. Employees can leave an organisation through retirement, termination, restructuring, redundancy, death or other circumstances that do not constitute voluntary resignation.
The figure therefore specifically concerns employees who chose to resign voluntarily.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the statistic offers one measure of workforce confidence at a company undergoing significant institutional and commercial transformation.
The more important test, however, will be whether the retention is matched by productivity, professional development, improved efficiency and sustainable performance across NNPC’s operations.
