KANO — The Kano State Police Command has detained and launched an active investigation into Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Warkal, a State House of Assembly aspirant, following a viral social media video that captured him openly brandishing a suspected pump-action rifle.
The politician, who is eyeing a legislative seat, was summoned to the Command Headquarters in Bompai on the direct orders of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori. He is currently undergoing interrogation at the command’s State Intelligence Department (SID).
According to a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, operatives stumbled upon the incriminating footage during a routine cyber patrol. The clip shows Warkal displaying the weapon during what appeared to be a political gathering.
The police noted that the blatant exhibition of a firearm, if proven, represents a blatant breach of the Firearms Act. Authorities stressed that such conduct is not only illegal but deeply dangerous, as it tends to stoke fear, intimidate citizens, and disrupt public peace.
”The Commissioner of Police strongly warns that the Command will not tolerate any act of lawlessness, thuggery, or display of weapons capable of threatening public peace, irrespective of the status of the person involved,” Kiyawa stated.
The command has since issued a stern caution to political actors, gladiators, and supporters across Kano State. Stakeholders are advised to keep their activities within the bounds of the law, strictly respecting the Electoral Act and the Firearms Act as political tensions build.
Reiterating its proactive stance, the police command promised a watertight security architecture to guarantee the safety of lives and property before, during, and after the political season.
