The Osun State Amotekun Corps has clarified that it voluntarily turned over four of its operatives to the State Police Command to assist in unravelling the circumstances surrounding the murder of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as ‘Emir,’ at the Mayfair motor park in Ile-Ife.
The clarification came on the heels of social media reports alleging that the security outfit’s personnel had been arrested by the police in connection with the high-profile killing. Oyeyemi, a prominent chieftain of the Accord Party and an ally of Governor Ademola Adeleke, was shot dead during a violent clash at the motor park on September 13. The incident occurred amid meetings regarding the proposed leadership structure of the state’s transport management system.
In a statement released on Monday by the Corps spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu, the command maintained that no form of arrest took place. Instead, the Corps Commander, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, chose transparency by personally handing over the four operatives—who were attached to NURTW chieftain Alowonle Nurudeen—to the police command.
“The decision was taken to enable the police to conduct their investigation and unravel the circumstances surrounding the attacks in Ile-Ife,” the statement read, emphasizing that the personnel were made available as part of a cooperative investigative process.

The Corps cautioned members of the public and media practitioners against misrepresenting or sensationalizing the transfer as an arrest before the police conclude their formal investigations. It further reiterated its institutional commitment to discipline, professionalism, and collaboration with sister security agencies to safeguard public peace in the state.
