The tragic domestic dispute in Bauchi State has taken a severe toll, leaving the husband hospitalized from intense trauma after his second wife allegedly beat her co-wife to death with a pestle.
The incident, which occurred at the Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi metropolis, involved 33-year-old Hauwa’u Haruna and the first wife, 43-year-old Jamila Adamu. According to the Bauchi State Police Command, the two women had a history of recurring domestic disagreements.
Confirming the latest updates, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, stated that the grieving husband was admitted to a hospital following the profound shock and trauma triggered by the tragedy.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, Hauwa’u, allegedly acted under hallucinations when she grabbed a pestle and struck Jamila heavily on the forehead during a confrontation. The vicious blow rendered the victim unconscious.
Emergency responders and police detectives from the C-Division rushed Jamila to the Specialist Hospital in Bauchi, where an attending physician pronounced her dead. Her remains have since been deposited in the hospital’s morgue pending an autopsy.
The police have successfully recovered the pestle used in the attack as an exhibit. Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and discreet investigation ahead of prosecution.
The command has also urged members of the public to shun domestic violence and ensure that family members exhibiting psychological distress or mental health challenges receive prompt medical and psychosocial intervention.
