Nollywood actor Chijioke Temidayo Nwokafor, popularly known as Cjay Nwoks, died on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at a hospital in the Badore area of Lagos. The news, confirmed by close friend and colleague Nkechi Blessing Sunday, has left the industry and fans in shock.
Just weeks earlier, on September 12, the actor shared a reflective Instagram post that has now taken on a deeply poignant resonance. Alongside new photographs of himself, he wrote: “Life’s too short to be unhappy, live every minute like it’s your last. LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH.” Fans who revisited the post after news of his death broke described the words as prophetic, flooding the comments with messages of grief and disbelief.
A separate recent post in which he wrote “No pressure, lifestyle cost na you no know,” accompanied by hashtags celebrating Nollywood and a high-spirited lifestyle, has similarly drawn attention for its ironic timing.
Nkechi Blessing, who had cast Nwoks as the lead in her upcoming film Egusi Ogbono, broke the news in an emotional Instagram video recorded at the hospital. Visibly distraught, she said: “It took me a lot to do this video because we won’t be dropping the movie again by 5pm.
Right now, I’m in the hospital in Badore. I just lost Cjay. Cjay is dead. I don’t even know where to start.” She later added in a written tribute: “Cjay, this was never the plan.” The planned YouTube premiere of the film that same afternoon was cancelled indefinitely out of respect.
In a subsequent post, the actress shared a collage of shared memories and revealed she had spoken with him only that morning. “CJay Nwoke Oma, so this is really the end? Omo we had plans oooo, Kaii spoke to you 8 am today, and a few hours later you are no more with us… Omo, pls return if possible cus I refuse to type otherwise this is too much for me to handle,” she wrote. No official cause of death has been released.
Nwoks, a native of Awka in Anambra State who was based in Lagos, began his professional acting career in 2021. The tall model-turned-actor and entrepreneur (he ran a food business called Jaylish) appeared in numerous Nollywood and Rok TV productions, including Larry Cold, Mum Overnight, A Day To My Wedding, The Lies She Tell, What Time Left, A Room In Our Heart, and others. Colleagues and fans have described him as a fast-rising talent whose sudden departure has left unfinished projects and unfulfilled plans.
As tributes continue to pour in across social media, the simple call to “LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH” posted just 18 days before his death has become an unintended final statement from an actor whose career was still gathering momentum. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
