A new security dispute has opened between Syrian authorities and Hezbollah after Damascus announced the arrest of three people it described as members of a Hezbollah-linked cell in southern Syria.
ValidViewNetwork gathered that the arrests took place in the Yarmouk Basin in western Daraa province.
Syrian authorities said the suspects were allegedly preparing rocket launchers for attacks.
SYRIA’S ACCOUNT
According to the Syrian Interior Ministry, the General Intelligence Directorate and internal security forces arrested the three suspects following surveillance.
Authorities said the cell had been attempting to establish rocket launchers for attacks intended to destabilise security. The rocket launchers were reportedly dismantled, while investigations continued before the suspects’ expected referral to judicial authorities.
Syrian authorities did not specify the intended targets or the exact number of launchers involved.
HEZBOLLAH’S DENIAL
Hezbollah denied any connection to the arrested individuals or the alleged operation.Vanguard reported that Hezbollah said it had no military presence or activity in Syria and rejected the Syrian authorities’ claim.
ValidViewNetwork notes that the allegations and denial remain separate claims. The Syrian authorities have not publicly established the suspects’ alleged affiliation through a court judgment in the reports available at the time of publication.
The Yarmouk Basin is in western Daraa, near the disengagement line with Israel, an area that has remained strategically sensitive amid wider regional tensions. ValidViewNetwork reports.
