The iconic Maracana Square in Ajegunle, Lagos, is set to host boxing royalty as American legend Ray Mercer heads to Nigeria for Season 2 of ‘The Street Rumble’.
Scheduled for December 13, 2026, the high-profile grassroots boxing event aims to build upon the massive success of its inaugural outing in April. Organised by Match Maker Sports International, the sophomore edition carries the thematic drive “The Movement Continues; The Street Speak,” targeting youth empowerment, the curbing of social vices, and the unearthing of raw boxing talent from Nigeria’s local communities.
Adding global prestige to the fixture, Mercer—the 1988 Olympic gold medalist and former WBO heavyweight world champion—will make a special ringside guest appearance. Organisers believe the legend’s involvement will heavily inspire aspiring pugilists looking to transition from community rings to international stardom.
Meanwhile, sports broadcasting giant Brila Media has officially signed on as the event’s exclusive broadcast partner. According to Match Maker Sports CEO Mike Adeyemo, the collaboration will leverage Brila’s expansive media network to project the inspiring narratives of grassroots fighters to a nationwide audience.
