Police Arrest Man Over Killing of Girlfriend in HIV Dispute

A dispute between a couple in Enugu has turned into a murder investigation after police arrested a 30-year-old man over the alleged killing of his girlfriend.

The suspect, identified by police as Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel, was arrested on Monday, September 21, following information about the death of a woman identified as Chinyere.

The Enugu State Police Command said the woman’s remains were discovered inside the suspect’s apartment at Olympic Layout, One-Day area of Enugu.

Police sources said the alleged killing followed an argument connected to HIV status.

The exact circumstances surrounding the woman’s death remain part of the investigation.

What police say happened

According to accounts attributed to the police, Emmanuel allegedly attacked the woman during the dispute. The woman’s remains were later reportedly concealed inside the apartment, where neighbours became suspicious after noticing an offensive odour and alerted the authorities.

Police subsequently arrested the suspect and began investigating the circumstances of the death.

At this stage, the allegations remain allegations.

The suspect is entitled to due process, while investigators are expected to establish what happened through forensic evidence, witness accounts and other available evidence.
