JOS — Following a fresh wave of violent attacks and mounting security threats that have left several communities panicked, the Plateau State Government has slammed an immediate dusk-to-dawn curfew on Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu Local Government Areas.
The restriction, which took effect immediately on Monday, September 21, 2026, confines movement across the three affected councils from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM daily until further notice.
The state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, announced the directive in Jos. She noted that Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration greenlit the emergency measure to forestall a total breakdown of law and order, protect vulnerable civilian lives, and give security forces the operational space needed to stabilize the volatile region.
The development comes on the heels of renewed weekend violence, which included a deadly market assault in Mangu and ambushes in Barkin Ladi that claimed multiple lives, triggering localized panic and mass evacuations.
Alongside the movement restrictions, the state government has placed an absolute ban on the use of motorcycles across the affected local government areas. Security operatives have been ordered to strictly enforce both the curfew and the motorcycle ban.
Authorities have urged residents, commercial operators, and farmers to realign their daily schedules to comply with the new security framework, assuring the public that deployed security personnel have been instructed to execute their duties professionally while working to restore permanent peace.
