Kabara Assumes Command of Niger NSCDC Amid Mining Custody Tragedy

​MINNA — Commandant Abdulhamid Salisu Kabara has formally assumed office as the new State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Niger State Command, taking over the leadership reins from Commandant Suberu Siyaka Aniviye.

​The change of leadership occurs under a dark cloud for the security agency, following the recent deaths of thirty-seven individuals who were being held in connection with suspected illegal mining activities within the state.

​Addressing the gravity of the situation upon his assumption of duty, Commandant Kabara expressed profound grief over the fatalities. Through a statement released by the Command Spokesperson, DSC Abubakar Rabiu Muti, the new Commandant extended his deepest condolences to the grieving families and all those impacted by the tragedy.

​While reaffirming the Corps’ unwavering dedication to its core mandates—including arrests, thorough investigations, enforcement, and curbing the menace of illegal mining—Kabara emphasized that law enforcement must never supersede the sanctity of human life. He underscored that safeguarding society must always align with the absolute duty to preserve the dignity, safety, and physical well-being of every individual placed in custody.

​Concluding his remarks, the Commandant offered prayers for divine mercy and eternal rest for the deceased, while wishing their relatives and loved ones the fortitude to bear the heavy loss.
