Nigerian troops have rescued a kidnapped couple after engaging their abductors in a gun battle in Kaduna State.
The couple, Hassan Isah and his wife, Juliana Hassan, were reportedly being held in Ateli village, Sanga Local Government Area.
The troops, operating under Sector 7 and Sub-Sector 71 of Operation ENDURING PEACE, engaged the kidnappers during the operation.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the abductors eventually fled and abandoned the couple.
Hassan sustained injuries during the incident and was taken to General Hospital, Wamba, for treatment.
The troops have continued efforts to track the fleeing suspects.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the rescue provides another example of the risks faced by communities in parts of Kaduna where kidnapping remains a major security concern.
