Dublin Airport security forces have apprehended Edwin Omokhuale, a 39-year-old Nigerian real estate chief executive officer, acting on an international arrest warrant issued by the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA).
Omokhuale was intercepted by officers from An Garda Síochána on Wednesday afternoon as he attempted to board a flight bound for Paris. The suspect is facing severe money laundering charges stemming from a sophisticated cyber-enabled financial scheme executed against an Australian mining enterprise in early 2023.
According to cross-border investigators, the fraudulent operation resulted in the illicit diversion of approximately $23 million, equivalent to roughly €19.7 million. Law enforcement officials state that the perpetrators utilized advanced deception tactics to trick employees of the targeted mining firm into authorizing large-scale wire transfers to illicit bank accounts controlled by the syndicate.
At the time of the alleged offense, Omokhuale was residing in the United Kingdom. Following his detention, he is scheduled to appear before a Dublin court on Thursday, September 10, where formal legal proceedings will commence to secure his extradition back to the UK to face prosecution.
