Governor Lawal: Infrastructure Key to Zamfara’s Sustainable Growth

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has committed billions of naira to infrastructure development, with the 2026 Citizens’ Budget allocating about N195.58 billion to the sector.

ValidViewNetwork gathered that Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has committed billions of naira to infrastructure development, with the 2026 Citizens’ Budget allocating about N195.58 billion to the sector.

The administration is constructing and rehabilitating roads linking towns and rural communities, as well as investing in healthcare, education, water supply, housing and urban development.

A Development Imperative

Governor Lawal has described the development of urban and rural infrastructure as a “development imperative” , with the broader objective of creating a robust foundation for sustainable development and economic growth across all sectors.

In a largely agrarian state like Zamfara, poor road networks have left many communities poorly connected, limiting access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities.

The administration has acknowledged that the deterioration of infrastructure and inadequate water supply were among the problems inherited by the government.

Key Road ProjectsSeveral road projects are underway, including:

· The 94-kilometre Yandoton Daji–Doka–Yan Waren Daji–Hayin Alhaji–Bedi–Yankuzo/Tsafe Road, intended to improve connectivity across communities whose economic activities depend heavily on agriculture and local commerce.

· The 53-kilometre Jauri–Dogon Kade–Nassarawa Mai Layi–Nassarawa Godal Road.

· Other projects include the Birnin Zauma–Gummi/Bukkuyyum Road, Maradun–Makera Road, Zurmi–Rukudawa Road and the Lambar Asako–Asako Road, including the Asako Bridge.Beyond Roads

The administration has also rehabilitated more than 800 schools, recruited over 2,000 teachers, upgraded hospitals and provided medical supplies across the state.

In July 2026, Governor Lawal distributed 50 new buses to the Zamfara State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to boost public transportation.

A Lesson for Nigeria

Governor Lawal’s infrastructure agenda is a reminder that development requires vision, planning and investment.

The same politicians who neglect infrastructure will never allow their own children to live in underdeveloped communities. Their families are protected.

For Nigeria, the lesson is clear: infrastructure is the foundation of economic growth. The same leaders who ignore roads, schools and hospitals will never allow their own children to be denied basic services.

Demand infrastructure development. Hold leaders accountable. And never forget that a nation that does not invest in its people cannot prosper.
