2027: NDC Supports G100, Eyes Victory With Own Candidate — Dickson

The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Seriake Dickson, has described the G100’s efforts to produce a consensus presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections as a good initiative, but said the party remained focused on winning the election with its own ticket.

A Welcome Initiative, But…

ValidViewNetwork gathered that the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has described the G100’s efforts to produce a consensus presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections as a good initiative, but said the party remained focused on winning the election.

Dickson, who stated this while appearing as a guest on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, said the party was aware of the moves and efforts by the G100, stressing that the group’s thinking was not misplaced and that the party, in principle, endorsed the initiative.

The NDC’s Position

He, however, maintained that the NDC had already settled its presidential ticket and was now focused on taking its case to Nigerians and securing victory at the polls, while remaining open to support from other parties and political groups.

“My friends who are organising the G100 came to see me… They are great Nigerians doing a great job, and their thinking is not misplaced. The NDC is aware of the moves and the efforts they are making. The NDC, in principle, endorses what they are doing,” Dickson said.

The Strongest Ticket

Dickson declared that the NDC has the most compelling ticket for the 2027 election.

“We have the most exciting ticket. We have the most vibrant ticket. We have an appealing ticket. We have a balanced ticket. We have a ticket that resonates with the Nigerian people at home and abroad. We are the strongest ticket, and I believe that they know that. I believe that every Nigerian knows it,” he said.

Open to Support

While the NDC is determined to win the election on its own, Dickson said the party remains open to support from other parties.

“In principle, no problem, but we are going into the election as NDC. If other parties and candidates support us, which we think they should do, well and good. But we are working to win the election,” he said.

The G100 Initiative

Opposition leaders recently gathered at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja for the G100 Alliance Summit as part of efforts to promote unity among political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The summit attracted representatives of six opposition political parties, who deliberated on possible areas of cooperation and collaboration ahead of the polls.

A Lesson for Nigeria

Dickson’s position is a reminder that opposition unity is easier said than done. The same politicians who speak of collaboration often prioritise their own ambitions. The same leaders who call for consensus often insist on their own terms.

For Nigeria, the lesson is clear: the road to 2027 will be shaped by the willingness of opposition leaders to put the nation first. The same people who refuse to compromise will never allow their own children to be excluded from power.
