UK Court Jails Nigerian Predator for 17 Years Over Vicious Wrexham Attack

​A UK-based Nigerian man, Gift Oladele, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison, with an extended eight-year licence period, following a brutal sexual assault in Wrexham, Wales.

​The 24-year-old was convicted at Mold Crown Court after denying charges of rape and sexual assault, forcing his victim to endure a trial before receiving his sentence at Caernarfon Crown Court in April.

​The harrowing incident occurred on September 7, 2025, when the 24-year-old offender targeted an anonymous 20-year-old woman as she walked home from a night out, offering to accompany her under the guise of heading in the same direction. He instead dragged her into an isolated wooded area, violently overpowering and beating her before subjecting her to a severe assault.

​The survivor recounted switching to “survival mode” during the ordeal, fearing for her life as the attacker struck her head multiple times and left her with significant physical bruises. Following the assault, Oladele cynically boasted about his appearance and threatened to publish compromising photographs online or track her down if she reported the crime.

​Despite the threats, the brave victim immediately confided in her parents upon arriving home at approximately 3:30 AM, prompting her father to alert North Wales Police. Law enforcement apprehended Oladele the following day at his cousin’s Wrexham residence, where they recovered a hidden mobile phone containing incriminating internet searches regarding sexual attacks.

​Investigations revealed that Oladele was already on bail for a separate rape allegation in Manchester dating back to November 2024, and had a prior conviction from 2022 for another sexually motivated attack.

​The case has reignited intense public scrutiny over immigration and legal loopholes. Born in Italy to Nigerian parents, Oladele had previously avoided deportation following an earlier criminal conviction by successfully arguing under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights that his removal would breach his right to private and family life. Despite multiple appeals by the Home Office, immigration tribunals repeatedly ruled in his favor, prompting outrage from the victim’s family regarding public safety protections.

​Wrexham Chief Inspector Caroline Mullen-Hurst condemned Oladele as a “dangerous predator” who displayed zero remorse throughout the legal proceedings. Meanwhile, the survivor continues to recover from the profound psychological and physical toll of the attack, praised widely by law enforcement for her extraordinary courage in bringing her attacker to justice.
