The Nigeria Police Force has spotlighted cross-border law enforcement collaboration following the successful repatriation of Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, the prime suspect in the high-profile abduction and murder of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and her young daughter.
The breakthrough underscores the expanding efficacy of international partnerships in tracking transnational criminals. Fejemirokum had gone into hiding after a harrowing video detailing the crime triggered widespread outrage and went viral on social media. Intelligence networks subsequently traced his flight path across the West African sub-region to Ghana, where vigilant local authorities apprehended him.
Following his arrest by the Ghana Police Service, the fugitive was extradited back to Nigeria to stand trial. Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu emphasized that the operation validates the critical role of timely intelligence sharing and INTERPOL networks in dismantling criminal safe havens.
Reiterating the force’s stance on the UN International Day of Police Cooperation, the IGP noted that modern security threats—ranging from cyber-enabled syndicates to human trafficking rings—require seamless multi-jurisdictional synergy. Authorities noted that similar global coordination recently facilitated the tracking and extradition processes of international fugitives, including Brazilian cocaine-trafficking suspect Mark Sunny Okoh.
The Nigeria Police Force has assured the public that the returned suspect will face an exhaustive prosecution process to deliver justice to the bereaved family.
