Troops in Nigeria’s North East have delivered a decisive blow to remnants of the Boko Haram insurgency, successfully neutralizing an ambush and dismantling a network of terrorist hideouts along the volatile Buni Gari–Buratai axis.
Operating under Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, soldiers from the 27 Task Force Brigade ran into a hostile ambush laid by the extremists during a routine patrol in the Biu Local Government Area of Borno State. The troops met the sudden assault with immediate, overwhelming firepower, breaking the enemy lines and driving the attackers into a disorganized retreat.
Following the initial firefight, tactical reinforcements poured into the sector, allowing the military to sweep the ambush zone and launch a broader exploitation sweep of the surrounding terrain. Ground forces uncovered and systematically dismantled multiple makeshift camps utilized by the insurgents as logistics staging posts and temporary redoubts.
An inventory of the seized materials highlights the operational capabilities disrupted by the sweep. Troops recovered a motorcycle, several bicycles, a rifle magazine, live ammunition caches, and high-explosive rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs intended for heavy assaults.
While the fierce engagement left some military transport vehicles with varying degrees of battle damage, no military personnel were killed or injured in the clash. The formation sustained its operational tempo, completing the clearance mandate before returning to base.
Command authorities reiterated that Operation HADIN KAI remains steadfast in its mandate to deny hostile elements any operational freedom across the theater. Although the regional security climate is currently calm, military commanders have categorized the situation as volatile, prompting an escalation of aggressive motorized patrols and intelligence-led sweeps.
The military has renewed its call for public vigilance, stressing that citizen cooperation and the prompt reporting of suspicious movements remain vital components in breaking remaining insurgent networks and securing communities across the region.
