Whingan Illuminates 8 Badagry Communities with 117 Solar Streetlights

​In a decisive push to bolster grassroots security and catalyze rural infrastructure, the lawmaker representing Badagry Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, has successfully installed 117 solar-powered streetlights across eight strategic communities.

​The comprehensive intervention spans major residential and commercial corridors in Iworo, Apa, Ajara, Ikoga Zebbe, Pota, Igborosun, Seme, and Javie. The rollout cuts across three key administrative zones: Badagry Local Government Area, Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), and Badagry West LCDA.

​For years, inadequate illumination in these parts of Lagos State has posed major challenges to nighttime mobility, commercial enterprise, and local security. By deploying sustainable solar alternatives, the project directly addresses these vulnerabilities, offering a lifeline to small business owners, night traders, and everyday commuters.

​Addressing constituents on the rationale behind the project, Whingan emphasized that legislative impact must be evaluated through tangible, life-improving outcomes rather than mere rhetoric. He noted that lighting up the streets is a multi-dimensional strategy aimed at choking out criminal safe havens while unlocking the local nocturnal economy.

​”Our people deserve to live and move around their communities with confidence, especially at night,” Whingan stated. “When we light up our communities, we are creating safer spaces, protecting lives and properties, and opening up opportunities for our people to move, work, and conduct their businesses with greater confidence.”

​The transition to solar-powered public utilities has drawn widespread commendation from community leaders and residents alike, who have hailed the project as a prompt and much-needed response to infrastructural deficits in the region.

​This latest infrastructure drive builds on a series of recent developmental interventions championed by the federal lawmaker. Earlier in the year, Whingan facilitated the distribution of solar inverter home systems to households across the constituency in partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), alongside various human capacity building and digital empowerment initiatives like the Badagry Tech Talents Project.
