Owena Farm Tragedy: 3 Siblings Found Dead

​AKURE — A profound sense of grief has enveloped the Oke Ogba community in Akure, Ondo State, following the tragic demise of three siblings who were found lifeless near a riverbank less than 24 hours after going missing on a family farm.

​The victims—11-year-old twin brothers Joshua and Jacob, alongside their five-year-old younger sister, Blessing Jonah—met their untimely end on a farm situated near the Owena Army Barracks on the outskirts of the state capital.

​According to accounts from the grieving family, the children had accompanied their father, Samuel Jonah, to the farmland on Friday, September 4. Preliminary reports indicate that the trio left the fields ahead of their father to make their way back home. However, when Samuel returned later and found no trace of them, a frantic search was immediately initiated, drawing in anxious neighbours and local community members who scoured surrounding bushes and bush paths.

​The search culminated in heartbreak the following morning, Saturday, September 5, when search parties located their bodies near a small river intersecting the property.

​The double blow of losing three children from the same household has sent shockwaves across the region. Mourners, sympathizers, and community leaders have continued to throng the Jonah family residence in Oke Ogba to offer condolences.

​Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, stated that formal investigations are underway to unravel the exact sequence of events that led to the tragedy.

​”The Command is documenting the incident and investigation is ongoing to ascertain what led to their death,” Abayomi noted, confirming that the remains have since been released to the family for burial.

​The police have also issued a fresh safety advisory, urging parents and guardians to exercise strict vigilance over minors, particularly in proximity to rivers, streams, and vulnerable terrain. As the community comes to terms with the devastating loss, questions remain as investigators work to piece together the final moments of the young siblings.
