Tinubu US Probe: Yoruba Ronu Demands Answers as Tinubu Calls for Selfless Leadership

Two narratives collided on Sunday as the Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum called on elder statesmen to break their “graveyard silence” over President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing US legal battle, while the President himself used a thanksgiving service to call for leaders who prioritise public good over personal interest.

A Call for Transparency

ValidViewNetwork gathered that the Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum has called on elder statesmen including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar, former Commonwealth Secretary-General Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka and former President Goodluck Jonathan to break their “graveyard silence” over President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing US legal battle.

In a statement issued on Sunday, September 6, 2026, the forum’s President, Chief Akin Malaolu, urged the elder statesmen to publicly address questions arising from US court proceedings involving records relating to Tinubu.

The FBI’s Confirmation

Malaolu noted that the FBI had confirmed in court filings that its records concern a criminal investigation involving drug-trafficking offences and that Tinubu was the subject of that investigation.

He stressed, however, that “this does not amount to a conviction, nor should anyone pretend that an investigation is proof of guilt.

“The group insisted its demand was not for anyone to pronounce Tinubu guilty, but for transparency and accountability.”What is unacceptable is silence,” Malaolu added.

Obasanjo’s Silence Questioned

The forum questioned why Obasanjo, who was President when Tinubu served as Lagos State Governor, had not spoken out, linking his silence to reports of his speculated support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

Tinubu Calls for Leaders of Public Good

Meanwhile, in Yola, President Tinubu, represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, called for patriotic leaders who would place the public good above personal interests.

Speaking at a thanksgiving service for former SGF Dr Boss Mustapha’s 70th birthday, Tinubu said:

“Nigeria needs men and women who value what transcends personal interest, but rather a devotion to public service.”
