Mother Brutally Assaults Daughter’s Roommate in Viral Attack

A 300-level Nursing student at Lagos State University College of Medicine, Adebayo Oluwatumininu, is recovering in hospital after she was allegedly attacked by the mother of her roommate, Hassan Temiloluwa, who stormed the hostel in a “fit of fury.”

The victim sustained severe injuries, including a serious eye injury, and had her clothes torn during the assault, which was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media.

What began as a minor disagreement between two students at the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) in Ikeja ended with blood on hostel floors, torn clothes, and a 300-level Nursing student fighting for justice from a hospital bed.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, September 3, 2026, has sent shockwaves through the university community and sparked widespread outrage on social media.

According to the Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU) , the trouble began when Hassan Temiloluwa, a Physiotherapy student, had a disagreement with her roommate, Adebayo Oluwatumininu, a 300-level Nursing student, and reported it to her mother.

Hours later, the mother arrived on campus, not to mediate, but to fight.

The Viral Video That Shocked the Nation

Video clips that have since gone viral on social media show the woman descending on the hapless student, grabbing, pushing, and repeatedly striking her during a confrontation inside the hostel room.

The footage is raw and painful: a mother, driven by rage, throwing punches at a young woman old enough to be her daughter.

In the clip, the student is heard pleading, “Mommy, please, stop! Mommy!” while the woman shouted in Yoruba and ordered her to sit down amid the commotion.

A person filming the incident could be heard attempting to intervene, while another voice challenged the woman, saying,

“You must be stupid! What kind of nonsense is that?” The woman did not stop at beating; she also tore the student’s clothes and inflicted severe injuries across her body while other students watched in shock.

A Student’s Fight for Justice

The attack left Oluwatumininu with a severe injury to her eye and other parts of her body.

Officials of the students’ union at the Ikeja Campus intervened and rushed her to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for emergency medical assessment and treatment.

“A student who spends her days learning how to save lives, now a patient herself. Bandages where there should be textbooks. Pain where there should be lectures. Fear where there should be safety,” a female student who witnessed the incident stated.

University Condemns Attack, Police Arrest Mother

LASU has condemned the incident in the strongest terms, stating that the matter had been reported to the police and addressed through the appropriate authorities.

“The matter has been addressed by the University. However, we condemn this in the strongest terms,” the institution said.

The university confirmed that the incident involved students of its College of Medicine, LASUCOM, Ikeja, but clarified that the confrontation occurred at a privately owned hostel outside the university’s campus.

“LASU remains committed to safeguarding the well-being, safety, and academic success of every student, and will continue to provide a secure and conducive learning environment,” the university said.

The LASU Students’ Union also condemned the use of violence in resolving disputes, stressing that disagreements involving students should never degenerate into physical attacks.

The union further disclosed that the mother of Hassan Temiloluwa had been taken into police custody and was expected to be arraigned in court on charges of physical assault and threats.

The attack has left the LASU College of Medicine community reeling.
