LAGOS — The Nigerian business community is in deep mourning following the sudden death of prominent international trader Blessing Orji, widely known as “Bebe Jewelry,” who collapsed and died inside a merchant’s shop in China.
Orji, a resilient entrepreneur celebrated for bridging supply chains between Asia and major Nigerian commerce hubs, operated a high-traffic storefront at Lambest Plaza within the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos. She was on a routine business sourcing trip when the tragic incident occurred.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage circulating across digital platforms captures the final moments before her collapse. In the video, Orji is seen inspecting merchandise and interacting with store attendants inside a Chinese shop. She briefly sits down, places a hand on her chest, and attempts to drink water while kicking off her footwear to find relief. Moments later, she collapses to the floor as panic ensues among nearby shoppers and store staff.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly afterward, but she was pronounced dead. Official medical reports detailing the precise cause of death have not yet been released by local authorities.
News of her passing has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) and trade sectors. Clients, friends, and fellow merchants have flooded social media with heartfelt tributes, honoring her vibrant energy, relentless entrepreneurial spirit, and dedication to her craft.
