
Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke has been declared the winner of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
The State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, announced Adeleke’s victory early Sunday at the Osun State collation centre after the final results from the state’s 30 Local Government Areas were collated.Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes.
His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, polled 444,815 votes, giving Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes.
The final tally recorded 985,079 valid votes, while 20,721 votes were rejected, bringing total votes cast to 1,005,800 from 1,010,684 accredited voters.Adeleke won 19 of the 30 LGAs, while Oyebamiji carried the remaining 11.
Declaring the result, Ogunwole said:
“That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 Governorship Election and returned elected.”
ValidViewNetwork reports that the declaration formally ends one of the most closely watched governorship contests in Osun’s recent political history.
Adeleke will now begin another term as Governor of Osun State after defeating the APC challenger by more than 66,000 votes.
