Kemi Adeosun Bids Final Farewell to Husband

​LAGOS — Former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, delivered an emotional tribute during the funeral service of her late husband, Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun, revealing that he passed away peacefully in his sleep without any prior illness.

​Adeniyi Adeosun, a respected businessman and devoted Christian, died in Lagos on August 5 at the age of 62. Family, friends, and dignitaries gathered in Lagos to pay their final respects. Among the prominent figures who earlier visited the former minister to offer condolences was Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.

​Speaking at the service, an emotion-laden Mrs. Adeosun admitted the difficulty of accepting the sudden loss while expressing profound gratitude for the decades they shared.

​“I’m heartbroken, I’ve found it difficult to believe that this actually happened. But at the same time, I’m very thankful,” she shared.

​Recounting his final moments, she noted that her husband had shown no signs of sickness before going to bed. Upon visiting the mortuary, she found comfort in his tranquil appearance.

​“On Friday, I went to the mortuary and when I saw him, he had the biggest smile on his face. He wasn’t sick. He simply went to sleep and didn’t wake up… that’s the way I’d like to go,” she said.

​Reflecting on their nearly 33-year marital journey, the former minister revealed plans the couple had recently made to embrace leisure and travel more frequently.

​“This year would have been 33 years of our wedding anniversary. We had a meeting, two of us, and we said now every three months, we’re just going to be travelling, we spend all the money. We’ve been so sensible that it’s time for us to enjoy ourselves,” she recounted.

​Painting a picture of her husband’s lively personality, she affectionately described him as a “mischievous human being” who filled their home with laughter. She amused mourners with a playful anecdote from a trip to the United States, where Adeniyi humorously feigned physical disability and secured a wheelchair just to bypass a lengthy immigration queue.

​“The kind of things that were coming to his head. That’s Niyi for you,” she said, adding that his vibrant presence would be profoundly missed by all who crossed paths with him.

​The funeral service concluded with family and well-wishers celebrating a life defined by faith, hard work, and deep community impact. Mr. Adeosun is survived by his wife, children, and siblings—including Kuramo Capital founder Adewale Adeosun.
