EFCC Charges NYSC Corps Members to Lead Anti-Corruption Crusade

ABUJA — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has rallied members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to spearhead the crusade against corruption and financial crimes, declaring that the nation’s future hinges on a paradigm shift among the younger generation.

Speaking across multiple orientation camps nationwide, EFCC Executive Chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede urged corps members to transition from conventional expectations into a “new breed” of citizens equipped with zero tolerance for malfeasance. Delivering a lecture themed “New Breed Youths as Catalysts for National Development,” the anti-graft czar emphasized that Nigeria’s socio-economic bottlenecks are fundamentally rooted in systemic corruption.

According to Olukoyede, contemporary challenges plaguing the country—ranging from widespread hunger and insecurity to inflation and unemployment—are direct symptoms of corrupt practices. He challenged the corps members to channel their youthful energy into becoming change agents rather than passive observers.

”A new breed of youth should be angry with the failures of the past and develop strengths for new successes. Decide to be a solution rather than a problem, a builder, not a breaker,” Olukoyede stated.

Nationwide Mobilization

The nationwide sensitization campaign spanned key orientation camps, highlighting the commission’s decentralized push for integrity-building among grassroots youth populations:

  • Ondo State: Addressing Batch “B” Stream II Corps members at the Ikare-Akoko Permanent Orientation Camp through Deputy Superintendent Emmanuel Onuminya, Olukoyede called for a complete departure from compromised paths, urging participants to actively expose shadiness within their immediate environments.
  • Adamawa State: Represented by Chief Superintendent Ogolekwu Mary at the Girei camp, the EFCC boss underscored the necessity of harnessing productive energies toward tangible national development.
  • Rivers State: Speaking at the Nonwa Gbam camp in Tai Local Government Area through Assistant Superintendent Otagada Sunday Ogar, he enjoined corps members to adopt a value-driven lifestyle anchored in genuine patriotism.
  • Kaduna State: At the temporary orientation camp, Chief Superintendent Nana Fatima Abubakar delivered the mandate, reiterating that individual choices made by young graduates will ultimately chart the trajectory of Nigeria’s future.
  • Nasarawa State: Addressing corps members in Keffi through Public Affairs Head Ngoundu Nguetar, the EFCC framed corruption as a direct threat to personal futures, styling the youths as “brigade commanders and generals” in the war against graft.

A Call to Action

Simultaneous addresses delivered by commission representatives in Lagos, Abuja, Yenagoa, Maiduguri, Uyo, Benin City, Ilorin, Makurdi, and other regional chapters reinforced a unified message: young Nigerians must deploy their intellect, courage, and moral fortitude to dismantle systemic corruption.

The EFCC maintains that true national renaissance is unachievable without youth-led accountability, urging the corps members to champion transparency throughout their primary assignments and professional pursuits.
