ABEOKUTA — Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have dismantled an alleged transnational fraud ring operating out of a heavily guarded residential estate in the Ota axis of the state.
Acting on actionable intelligence, tactical officers attached to the Atan-Ota Division stormed a gated compound off Iyana Iyesi in the Onipanu-Ota area. The swift raid led to the apprehension of 23 foreign nationals suspected of orchestrating an elaborate Ponzi scheme, running fraudulent visa operations, and committing various immigration breaches.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, a thorough sweep of the premises yielded key evidentiary materials, including a Malian international passport bearing the name Diakite Alfousseini.
Following initial interrogations and screening, 21 of the detained suspects were transferred to the custody of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to face further scrutiny regarding their legal status and residency documents. Meanwhile, two primary suspects have been detained by law enforcement and will be arraigned in court on charges of Obtaining by False Pretence (OBT) and related financial crimes once comprehensive inquiries are wrapped up.
