AJAOKUTA — The Catholic Diocese of Lokoja is in deep mourning following the gruesome murder of Reverend Father Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, who was brutally killed by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
According to local reports, the clergyman was ambushed and stabbed multiple times along the volatile Ajaokuta highway on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. His lifeless body was later discovered abandoned by the roadside.
Until his tragic demise, Father Oyetoro served diligently at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Egbe. Born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area, and proudly tracing his roots to Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, he was widely known for his pastoral dedication and community service.
While security agencies have yet to release a comprehensive official report detailing the immediate motives or sequence of events, the Catholic Diocese of Lokoja formally confirmed the devastating loss in an official circular.

The diocese has called on the clergy, religious institutions, and the laity to dedicate their Holy Masses and personal devotions to praying for the peaceful repose of his soul. Furthermore, church leadership urged the public to remember his grieving parents, siblings, parishioners, and the entire diocese in their prayers during this dark period of bereavement.
