​The reign of terror orchestrated by one of Zamfara State’s most feared bandit kingpins, Kachalla Sani Yellow, has come to a violent end. The notorious commander, whose name had become synonymous with brutality across the North-west, was reportedly killed in Anka Local Government Area, sparking widespread jubilation among communities that had long suffered under his regime.

​The Zamfara State Police Command, through its spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the death of the bandit leader but clarified that police forces were not directly responsible for the operation.

Initial reports from local community sources and vigilante groups suggest he was neutralised by a combination of hunters and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) after they repelled a bandit attack.

According to sources cited by PRNigeria, the elimination may have been the result of an intelligence-led ambush by hybrid security forces—a coalition of local volunteers and former insurgents—who intercepted the kingpin as he visited a local market to collect illicit levies and ransom payments. Other accounts have linked his death to an ambush by loyalists of a rival bandit commander, Dogo Gide, or as part of a broader, ongoing joint security offensive in the region.

​For years, Kachalla Sani Yellow was accused of masterminding large-scale kidnappings, livestock rustling, and violent raids that displaced thousands of people across Zamfara, Bukkuyum, and Maru local government areas. He was also alleged to have enforced brutal extortion schemes, with reports indicating he subjected captives to severe abuse when ransom demands were not met.
