Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA) is set for a new chapter of academic leadership following the approval of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the institution’s new Vice Chancellor by Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the appointment was approved by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa after the Governing Council of the university recommended Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi in accordance with the University’s Act and extant regulations governing the selection of principal officers.
The Governing Council, chaired by Dr. Tunji Abayomi, reportedly recommended Professor Obamuyi after he emerged as the top candidate among 15 contenders interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board of the institution. The selection process culminated in his emergence as the preferred candidate to lead one of Ondo State’s foremost universities.
ValidViewNetwork reports that Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi will succeed the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige, bringing with him decades of experience in academia, research, administration, and institutional development.
A renowned scholar in Banking and Finance, Professor Obamuyi has built an impressive career across Nigeria’s higher education sector. He previously served as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko and also made history as the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
His academic accomplishments extend beyond Nigeria. In recognition of his contributions to scholarship and education, Professor Obamuyi was awarded the “Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa for 2015” by the Africa Education Leadership Awards, Mauritius.
Throughout his distinguished career, he has served as a Member of National Universities Commission Programme Accreditation Teams and as Chairperson and Subject Expert of the Review Panel for the National Council for Higher Education in Namibia. His scholarly engagements have also taken him across several countries, including Finland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India, and the United States of America, where he presented papers at international conferences, ValidViewNetwork reports.
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence in the capacity of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi to build on the achievements already recorded by the institution. The governor noted that the new Vice Chancellor’s extensive experience would help consolidate existing gains and further strengthen AAUA’s reputation in teaching, research, innovation, and community service.
The governor also urged the incoming Vice Chancellor to uphold the institution’s core values while promoting peace, innovation, and collaboration among staff, students, and stakeholders. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Ondo State Government to providing the necessary support required for AAUA to sustain its position as one of Nigeria’s leading state universities.
