LAGOS, NIGERIA — A harrowing tale of cross-border human trafficking and structural failure has emerged from the Adamo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State. Hannah (surname withheld), a 16-year-old Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) student, has exposed a syndicate operating within her neighborhood after escaping from a sexual exploitation ring in Ghana.
The teenager was allegedly lured away under the false pretense of securing lucrative employment abroad by a trusted neighbor, identified as Tosin Moses.
The Lure and Deception
According to Hannah, who resided with her father in the Okonron area of Adamo before the incident, the suspect capitalised on their familiarity. Moses reportedly floated the idea of traveling abroad to the teenager, promising a high-paying job but deliberately concealing the nature of the work and the destination country.
The suspect allegedly instructed the victim to keep the arrangement a secret. While the suspect’s mother eventually approached Hannah’s father regarding the travel plans, the father flatly rejected the proposal and warned against taking his daughter out of the country.
However, weeks later, Moses allegedly exploited a window of opportunity when Hannah’s father stepped out of the house.
”I left with her when my dad stepped out,” Hannah narrated. “I wore my school uniform that day because she said it would avoid suspicion. We left her house and went to the residence of a woman in Ogijo, Ogun State. From there, we travelled to Ibadan before continuing by boat to Ghana. I initially thought I was going there to sell food items because of the large quantity of goods she carried.”
The Nightmare in Ghana
Hannah’s arrival in Ghana in February 2026 marked the beginning of a relentless nightmare. Upon arrival, Moses allegedly dropped the facade and informed the minor of her true line of work.
”When we got there on Friday, she informed me about the kind of work I would be doing,” the traumatized teenager recalled. “I started crying, but she told me there was nothing I could do and that I had to accept it. I slept with between 50 and 100 men daily.”
Cut off from her family and closely monitored, Hannah remained in captivity for nearly four months before she successfully orchestrated an escape, crossing back into Nigeria on May 27, 2026.
Syndicate Exposed, Fresh Victim Saved
The cross-border crime came to light following a tip-off from a local vigilante operative popularly known as “Iron Lady” within the Adamo community. The security operative alerted a concerned resident, Taiwo Yisau, who subsequently escalated the matter to a tactical police officer, identified as Afolayan, in the Araro area on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Acting on the intelligence, Yisau and a team of police officers raided the residence of the suspect. While Moses and her immediate accomplices evaded arrest, law enforcement operatives met the suspect’s mother at the scene.
Crucially, detectives discovered another 12-year-old girl, Zainab (surname withheld), at the residence. Preliminary investigations suggest the pre-teen was already being prepped as the syndicate’s next victim for transport to Ghana.
Police Reaction
When contacted, the Officer in Charge of the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident to journalists. The command assured the public that a full-scale investigation has been launched, and tactical teams are tracking down Tosin Moses and other fleeing members of the trafficking ring.

Meanwhile, child rights advocates have called for immediate psychological rehabilitation for the survivor and heightened border surveillance along the Ogun State and coastal waterways routinely exploited by human traffickers.
