LAGOS – A Lagos High Court has delivered a landmark judgment ordering a prominent businesswoman and former staff of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ms. Olufunke Otti, to relinquish a multi-million naira property and refund hundreds of millions in diverted funds to her estranged husband, Chief Isaac Morakinyo Jolapamo.
In a judgment delivered by Justice Olufolake Olufolashade Adewunmi-Oshin in suit No. LD/3034LM/2022, the court declared that the luxury property situated at 23A & B Olusegun Aina Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, rightfully belongs to Chief Jolapamo. The court found that Ms. Otti had unlawfully registered the asset in her sole name despite it being purchased with proceeds from her husband’s business.
According to a report by validviewnetwork.com, the legal battle highlighted a significant breach of marital and professional trust involving the sale of maritime assets. Beyond the forfeiture of the real estate, Justice Adewunmi-Oshin directed Ms. Otti to refund ₦410,347,000, representing the outstanding balance from the sale of two vessels—M.T. MOR Prosperity and M.T. Power.
The court further compelled the defendant to remit ₦63,000,000 in rental income she had collected from tenants at the Parkview property between 2018 and 2021. General damages of ₦5 million were also awarded against her in favor of Chief Jolapamo, a former president of the Indigenous Shipowners Association of Nigeria (ISAN).
The union, which began with spiritual counsel at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), was formalized in February 2017. However, the relationship soured in 2019 when Ms. Otti allegedly notified Chief Jolapamo via WhatsApp that she was ending the marriage while he was abroad, subsequently demanding he vacate the home.
Validviewnetwork.com reports that the marriage was officially dissolved in April 2025 by an Osun State High Court following allegations of threats to life. With this latest ruling, Chief Jolapamo has successfully recovered the financial entitlements and assets he entrusted to Ms. Otti during their eight-year association.
