Lagos 2027: Jandor Withdraws from APC Guber Race, Defers to Party Supremacy

​LAGOS – In a dramatic turn of events ahead of the 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial elections, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has officially withdrawn his bid for the governorship under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

​His withdrawal comes barely 24 hours after he caused a stir within the party by purchasing his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms. His initial entry into the race was seen by many as a direct challenge to the established order within the state’s ruling party.

​In a statement underscoring his commitment to the internal cohesion of the party, Adediran reaffirmed his loyalty to the principle of “party supremacy.” He noted that his decision was reached after extensive consultations and in deference to the leadership structure of the APC.

​The race for the Alausa Round House appears to be narrowing toward a consensus. The incumbent Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has already secured his nomination forms and is widely reported to have the formidable backing of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC). The GAC, the APC’s highest decision-making body in Lagos, is led by the veteran Prince Tajudeen Olusi and enjoys the support of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

​Political analysts suggest that Jandor’s withdrawal effectively clears the path for Hamzat, who has recently received high-level endorsements, including reported nods from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This consolidation of support reflects the APC’s traditional strategy of maintaining a united front through consensus candidates.

​Despite his exit from the 2027 race, Adediran—the lead visioner of the Lagos4Lagos movement—emphasized that his respect for the party’s national leader, President Tinubu, and the state elders remains unwavering. He expressed his gratitude to his supporters, noting that the decision was made in the ultimate interest of the party’s stability and progressive ideals.
