Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Engr. (Dr.) Lawson Olorunwa Sunday as the Acting Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, with effect from April 25, 2026.
The appointment follows the retirement of the former Rector, Dr. Adegun Simeon Olurunwa, who stepped down on April 24, 2026, after completing his tenure.
Engr. Olorunwa, a seasoned academic, is a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering Technology at the institution. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering Technology and is a registered engineer with over 25 years of experience within Nigeria’s polytechnic system.
Over the years, he has served in several key administrative roles, including Deputy Rector, Director of Works, and Head of Department. Until his new appointment, he was the Deputy Rector of the Polytechnic.
A native of Ajagba in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State, Engr. Olorunwa is expected to bring his wealth of experience to bear in steering the institution’s affairs in an acting capacity.
The appointment was conveyed in a statement issued on April 25, 2026, by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan.
