Lagos, April 20, 2026 – The Board of ANOH Gas Processing Company (AGPC) has named Mr. James Makinde as its new Managing Director, effective today, succeeding Engr. Effiong Okon who retired after a distinguished tenure.
Makinde steps into the role from his previous position as General Manager for Gas Business at Seplat Energy Plc. AGPC, a joint venture between NNPC Limited and Seplat Energy Incorporated, operates the landmark 300 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) ANOH gas plant in Nigeria’s Imo State, a key facility boosting domestic gas supply and power generation.
A seasoned oil and gas expert, Makinde brings deep knowledge in commercial deal-making, project execution, and gas market expansion. His career spans project management, asset optimization, gas commercialization, gas-to-power initiatives, renewable energy ventures, investment strategies, and business development.
Prior to Seplat, Makinde accumulated over 20 years with Shell companies in Nigeria. His final role there was West Africa Business Development Manager at Shell New Energies (now Emerging Market Power), where he spearheaded investments in renewables and power across Africa.
Makinde is a prominent figure in Nigeria’s gas sector. He chaired the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) gas sub-committee and served as a Non-Executive Director at the Gas Aggregator Company of Nigeria (GACN). Recent industry reports highlight his advocacy for expanded gas infrastructure to support Nigeria’s energy transition and economic growth.
He holds an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, UK; an MSc in Offshore and Ocean Technology (Subsea Pipelines Engineering) from Cranfield University, UK; and a first degree from the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria.
Industry watchers praise the appointment as a strategic fit for AGPC’s growth ambitions amid Nigeria’s push for gas self-sufficiency.
