Triple-Check: Court Orders Three Independent DNA Tests in Mohbad Paternity Battle

IKORODU, LAGOS – The long-drawn legal battle over the paternity of Liam Aloba, son of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (popularly known as Mohbad), reached a critical turning point yesterday, February 3, 2026. ​Legal experts note that for the paternity results to be legally binding and conclusive, all three results must correspond.

​Shunning Government Pathologists

​A significant highlight of the hearing was the stance taken by the late singer’s father, Joseph Aloba. Through his legal representative, the family expressed a lack of confidence in using government-run laboratories.

​Citing the “inconclusive” nature of the initial state-led autopsy—which previously failed to determine Mohbad’s cause of death due to decomposition—the family’s lawyer argued for private expertise.

​”We do not wish to risk a repeat of the past,” the lawyer stated. “We prefer foreign facilities that have specialized pathologists operating within Nigeria to ensure a world-class chain of custody and technical precision.”

​Cost and Logistics

​The financial burden of this extensive testing was also addressed. The court ruled that Joseph Aloba will bear the costs for his nominated test as well as the court-appointed independent test. Wunmi Aloba’s team will be responsible for the costs associated with their selected facility.
