KANO, Nigeria — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended popular Kannywood actress Samha M. Inuwa following the emergence of a social media video showing her allegedly using Nigerian currency as a tissue.

The Incident

The arrest, carried out by the Kano Zonal Directorate on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, follows a wave of public outrage. In the contentious footage, Inuwa is reportedly seen “conspicuously” using Naira notes to wipe mucus from her nose. The anti-graft agency has categorized the act as a blatant desecration of the national legal tender.

EFCC operatives tracked the actress shortly after the clip gained traction across TikTok and Instagram. A spokesperson for the commission confirmed that Inuwa is currently in custody at the Kano facility, stating, “We are committed to upholding the dignity of our national currency. The Commission swung into action immediately to ensure the law is respected.”

Legal Consequences under the CBN Act

This arrest underscores the federal government’s ongoing crackdown on currency abuse. Under Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act 2007, various forms of “Naira abuse” are strictly prohibited, including:

  • Mutilation: Tearing, stamping, or staining notes.
  • Derogatory Use: Using currency for unhygienic purposes.
  • Social Misuse: Spraying or dancing on money at events.
