Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has approved the appointment of nine new permanent secretaries, two principals-general, and four headteachers-general, aiming to enhance administrative efficiency across government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

The move, announced in a statement by State Head of Service Kehinde Onasanya on December 31, 2025, aligns with Section 208(c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). Onasanya emphasized that selections prioritized merit, professionalism, inclusiveness, and relevant experience from directors who excelled in the Ogun State Executive Leadership Development Pipeline Programme—a key initiative for grooming top civil servants.

This pipeline programme, launched under Abiodun’s administration, has become a cornerstone for leadership renewal in Ogun’s public service. Recent online reports from sources like Vanguard and Punch confirm similar appointments earlier in 2025, including eight permanent secretaries in September, signaling a sustained push to fill leadership gaps amid retirements and promotions. Abiodun’s strategy reflects broader efforts to professionalize the bureaucracy, building on his “Building Our Future Together” agenda, which has seen investments in infrastructure, education, and economic growth since he took office in 2019.

New Permanent Secretaries

The appointees, drawn from various MDAs, include:

  • Mr. Abdul-Azeez Oludare Ajidele, Director of Planning Research & Statistics, Ministry of Justice
  • Mrs. Olufunmilayo Yetunde Soyoye-Baker, Director of Agriculture and State Coordinating Director, Cash Transfer Unit
  • Mrs. Adebimpe Foluso Obienu, Director of Public Prosecution, Ministry of Justice
  • Dr. (Mrs.) Kafayat Modupe Lawal, Executive Secretary, Alternate Medicine Board
  • Mr. Ahmed Bayo Adetona, Director of Audit, Office of the Auditor-General (State)
  • Mr. Idowu Oladapo Onasanya, Director of Administration & Supplies, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs
  • Mr. Olalekan Peter Taiwo, Director of Payment, State Treasury Office
  • Mr. Akintomiwa Oluwagbeminiyi Osibodu, Director of Administration & Supplies, Teaching Service Commission
  • Engr. Kehinde Olukayode Akintomide, Director of Industrial Promotion, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment

These roles are pivotal for policy execution, with past appointees credited in state reports for streamlining operations in justice, finance, and industry sectors.

Education Sector Appointments

In parallel, Abiodun approved two principals-general for secondary schools and four headteachers-general for primary education under the Teaching Service Commission and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). This addresses vacancies in the education hierarchy, vital for Ogun’s schools amid ongoing reforms.

Principals-General:

  • Mrs. Aminat Folake Busari (Remo Division)
  • Mr. Olusegun Nathaniel Akapo (Yewa Division)
  • Mrs. Folake Omolara Onabanjo (Egba Division)

Selections followed rigorous processes, including oral interviews, school inspections, and evaluations of academic performance, facilities maintenance, staff relations, and leadership qualities. Online coverage from The Nation highlights Ogun’s education push, with Abiodun’s government allocating over ₦200 billion to the sector in the 2025 budget, focusing on infrastructure and teacher welfare.

Onasanya congratulated the appointees, urging them to uphold dedication and contribute to state development. A swearing-in ceremony by the governor is scheduled soon.

These appointments come as Ogun navigates economic challenges, including inflation and infrastructure needs, with Abiodun’s re-election in 2023 underscoring public support for his administrative reforms.
