A foremost legal luminary and human rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN) has posited that the effects of divisive strategies of politicians during the build-up to the 2023 elections will fizzle out soon.
Falana who featured alongside Dr Bolaji Akinyemi and Yinka Moyosore Kotoye(SAN) at the fifth edition of monthly Boiling Point Arena online discourse on politics and governance on Sunday allayed fears on the effects of the unprecedented divisions along religious and ethnic divides orchestrated by the politicians to gain political favour.
Validviewnetwork had earlier reported that the nation had never witnessed a sharp division along religious and ethnic leanings as witnessed during the build-up to the 2023 elections.
According to Falana, the divisions created by the politicians will dissolve naturally and the masses will be united. While condemning politicians for the divisions, the legal luminary asserted that the masses are wiser than the politicians. The divisions will soon disappear.
In his words, : “Nigerians are wiser and will come out stronger.
When blood was needed for victims of bus-train accident in Lagos, no one was asking if the blood was needed for a Yoruba or Igbo , Christian or Muslim”
The people are tired of poverty and unemployment but the political ruling class will continue to develop strategies to mess up the system. It is for the genuine progressive forces to unite our people to continue to challenge the status quo.
Our people will unite after election. The crisis of poverty will help them to unite.”
Speaking further, Falana asserted that to solve the myriad of challenges facing the country, a determined and conscientious effort must be made to restructure and democratise powers.
“To achieve the desired results, efforts must be made to democratise powers at both regional and state levels.
