The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward 4 Executive Committee in Sabo, Sagamu, Ogun State, has firmly stated that the indefinite suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel, former governor and senator representing Ogun East, remains in full force amidst conflicting signals from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Addressing reporters at the Ward Secretariat, Hon. Oluwole Aduroja, Secretary of Ward 4, stressed that the suspension followed a unanimous decision by the 19-member executive committee after Daniel repeatedly failed to respond to invitations to defend himself against allegations of anti-party activities. These allegations primarily stem from Senator Daniel’s conduct during the recent general elections, where he reportedly acted against the party’s interests, as well as his attempts to obstruct justice during the Election Petition Tribunal proceedings.
“The suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel remains effective,” Aduroja said, underscoring that the ward’s disciplinary actions are supported by the APC constitution, which grants executive committees at various levels the authority to initiate and enforce disciplinary measures independently of the NWC.
This stance directly challenges a November 17 letter from the APC National Secretariat, which indicated that the NWC has yet to deliberate on Daniel’s case and therefore considers him a member in good standing. The national leadership has directed all party organs in Ogun State to refrain from further correspondence on the matter until a comprehensive investigation is conducted.
Tensions within the Ogun APC have escalated, with supporters of Daniel accusing Governor Dapo Abiodun’s camp of orchestrating the suspension to diminish the senator’s influence ahead of the 2027 senatorial elections. However, the Ward 4 leadership insists that the disciplinary process adhered to fairness and due process as outlined in party regulations.
As the quarrel between the ward executives and the national committee continues, the fate of Senator Gbenga Daniel’s membership and political future within the APC remains uncertain, setting the stage for intense intra-party negotiations in the coming months.
