The Edo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Gbenga Agun, tragically passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025, shortly after delivering a lecture at an event commemorating the 2025 International Day of Peace in Benin City. Sources within the corps confirmed that Agun collapsed suddenly after his speech at the ceremony organized by the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), held at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre.

Efforts were immediately made by attendees to revive the Commandant, but their attempts proved unsuccessful. He was swiftly transported to the Military Hospital located on Airport Road, Benin, where medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival.

Mr. Agun was among several distinguished personalities honored at the event, which focused on the theme of promoting global peace and unity. His unexpected death is mourned deeply by the NSCDC and the wider Edo State community.
