The Ogun State Government has strongly rebuked Senator Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East, over his criticisms of Governor Dapo Abiodun concerning the ongoing 260-meter rehabilitation of Paddy Arikawe Oye-Igbimo Road in Sagamu.
The government accused Daniel of recklessly distorting facts, inciting public unrest with falsehoods, and courting controversy for cheap popularity. Rather than provoking discord, Daniel was urged to respect due process, which the government said he has consistently disregarded.
In a statement by Governor Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the government clarified that the contractor, Minim and Tonye Nigeria Limited, had commenced work without obtaining the necessary permits from the state. The instruction given was to regularize operations by adhering to laid-down procedures—not obstruction as alleged.
Akinmade pointed out that Daniel remains the only federal lawmaker in Ogun State frequently embroiled in disputes over constituency projects, contrasting him with other lawmakers who execute projects without government interference. The aide further reminded the public of Daniel’s history of undermining state institutions and his refusal to cooperate during past verification exercises.
The statement noted that Daniel, currently suspended by his party’s state executive, has made a habit of attacking the government. While Daniel complains about roads, the present government has reportedly constructed over 1,000 kilometers of roads statewide.
The Ogun government emphasized that it will uphold the rule of law and public safety, rejecting any attempts to satisfy individual whims at the expense of due process
