The university medical center of Ajayi Crowther University Oyo with the core mandates of managing the healthcare services of the students population as well as those of the staff members received an unprecedented attention during the five year tenure of the outgoing Vice Chancellor Professor Timothy Abiodun Adebayo.

The developmental interventions from the Vice Chancellor ranged from infrastructure, staff recruitments and welfare, Information Communication Technology gadgets, round the clock power supply and above all prompt approval of required funds for pharmacy drugs and consumables replenishment which happens to be the litmus paper test for the effectiveness and efficiency of the healthcare services delivery mandate.

The Medical Laboratory unit of the university medical center received a multimillion naira relocation from a one-room laboratory to a three room apartment with provision of modern equipment and and safe workspace capable of earning the Ajayi Crowther University Medical Center a secondary care registration certificate from National Health Insurance Authority.

The university medical center remained one of the first department in the university to achieve 24 hours round the clock power supply from all available 4 sources of; national grid, Diesel powered Central generator, a brand new petrol generator for the center and a solar inverter power supply with Lithium batteries back up. The uninterrupted power supply to the center was not only beneficial for providing light when there is darkness but made our modern gadgets like hematology analyser, nebulizer and oxygen concentrator functional round the clock for emergency services.
Throughout the tenure of the outgoing Vice Chancellor, the center did not for one day experience lack of water supply. Water is essential for continuous cleaning and sanitation of the hospital environment.

The university reception area received intervention of the Vice Chancellor with a brand new LG plasma TV and monthly DSTV subscriptions to keep the students entertained while waiting to receive care. These were further extended to the male and female admission wards where the DSTV programs can be watched by those on admission.

Human resources management under the outgoing Vice Chancellor remained an utmost priority. Staff members are promptly appointed and replaced whenever the needs arise. Making the Director Health Services a member of both Junior and Senior Appointment and Promotion Committee made the university medical center a better beneficiary of the university’s staff recruitment and replacement gestures. This privilege we have not taken for granted!

The most important yardstick in measuring the service efficacy of any medical facility is availability of the prescribed drugs within the same facility. We are indeed very grateful to the administration of Professor Timothy Abiodun Adebayo for his fatherly role to the university medical center. An average of #15 million naira per academic session was being approved for purchases of pharmacy drugs and consumables with the following breakdown: about #6 million naira per semester and roughly #3 million naira during summer and periods of university’s special academic programs.

Process of requests approvals are seamless once due diligence rules are observed in sourcing for invoices from suppliers. Special purchases of emergency stocks for convocation ceremonies are always ensured by the administration of Professor Timothy Abiodun Adebayo ~ a practice I am seeing for the very time in my career as Director of Health Services.

Conclusively, on behalf of the entire staff of the Ajayi Crowther University Oyo Medical Center, we express our profound gratitude to the outgoing Vice Chancellor for migrating us to Consolidated Medical Salary Structure for the doctors and Consolidated Health workers Salary Structure for other health center workers as an unforgettable parting gift to motivate existing staff members and attract best hands to join our service for better healthcare delivery to the university community. Thank you sir and best wishes in your future endeavors.

Dr Amusan Abiodun Omoniyi.
Ag. Director Medical Services.
