Former Imo State House of Assembly member Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, who represented Okigwe State Constituency, has been freed after being kidnapped by a notorious gang led by the criminal known as “Gentle the Yahoo.” Hon. Ogbu was abducted while trying to negotiate peace with the gang to bury a deceased relative peacefully. Although he paid money to the kidnappers, they betrayed him by detaining him deep in their camp.
The gang’s leader “Gentle the Yahoo” and his second-in-command “Angel Make Up” had circulated a threatening video showing the kidnapped lawmaker, warning that they would kill him if the Imo State Government failed to withdraw security forces from Okigwe. However, a highly coordinated commando operation by the Nigerian Army stormed the gang’s stronghold in Aku, Okigwe. The military raid resulted in the deaths of Gentle the Yahoo, Angel Make Up, and several other gang members. Importantly, over 12 captives, including Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, were rescued alive.
The Imo State Police Command confirmed Hon. Ogbu’s release and announced ongoing collaboration with security agencies to apprehend remaining kidnappers and maintain peace in the state. This military action delivers a significant blow to the gang terrorizing Okigwe, marking a positive step toward restoring security to the area.
