Nigerians have been encouraged by the Labour Party to reject politicians whose only chance of winning the upcoming elections is to buy votes and incite youths to commit acts of violence against opponents.
Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, the party’s national youth leader, made the appeal during a pre-election press conference on Sunday in Abuja.
He stated that this weekend’s elections will be Nigerians’ best chance yet to remove those in power who are to be blamed for the country’s current woes.
The youth leader said, “My fellow Nigerians, we stand at a crossroad in our history. We can choose to continue with failed policies of the past, or we can choose to build a new Nigeria, a Nigeria that works for all.
“I want to urge you to resist the temptation of selling your votes, it is a corrupt and illegal practice that undermines the integrity of our elections.
“Your vote is your power and noone should be able to buy it from you. No amount given to you at the polling unit can sustain you for the next four years.”
Speaking specifically to Nigerian youths, Ahanotu said, “The Labour Party sees you, hears you and understands you. You are not alone in your travails. We know that you have been used as tools by politicians in the past, but we are not like them.
“We do not believe in violence, we do not believe in vote buying, and we do not believe in election rigging. We believe in the power of your voice, your vote and your determination to create a new Nigeria.”
He said that by supporting Peter Obi and Yusuf Baba-Ahmed in the upcoming elections, Nigerians might alter the country’s future for the better.
He stated that this would put an end to the present state of misery, unrest, and the rule of bandits, terrorists, and other criminals who have held the country captive.
The LP youth leader referred to the cashless policy of the outgoing president Muhammadu Buhari administration as a start in the right path.
He clarified that he would keep pleading with Nigerians to hold off despite the terrible implementation of the plan, which has caused unheard-of misery for the country’s citizens, ValidViewNetwork reports.
