As the new school term commences across Ondo State, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s administration has officially resumed the operation of free shuttle buses and boats aimed at easing the transportation challenges faced by students. This move aligns with the government’s OUR EASE Agenda, dedicated to making education more accessible and life easier for residents.

During a recent monitoring tour in Akure, the state capital, Mr. Francis Ayodele, Permanent Secretary of the Agency of Transport, praised the governor’s commitment in providing adequate funding and manpower for the shuttle services, which will run for an initial 13 weeks. He emphasized that the buses in urban centers and speedboats in riverine areas such as Ilaje and Ese-Odo local government areas are entirely free for students. Mr. Ayodele encouraged students and parents to maintain orderliness and report any issues directly to the agency for swift resolution.

The free shuttle initiative, originally conceived to reduce the cost burden on families amid rising transportation expenses, has been widely welcomed. Mrs. Bolanle Adeoye, a parent at an Akure bus stop, expressed gratitude towards Governor Aiyedatiwa, describing the service as a crucial relief for families facing economic pressures. She prayed for continued success for the state leadership and highlighted the program’s role in enhancing access to education.
To ensure inclusivity, the government has deployed speedboats for riverine communities where road access is limited, guaranteeing equal schooling opportunities for children in these areas. The buses and boats operate in all 18 local government areas, showcasing the administration’s determination to leave no student behind due to transportation difficulties.
Maintenance teams have been engaged to ensure all vehicles are in excellent condition, with rapid-response mechanics on standby to address any breakdowns, ensuring uninterrupted service for the school term.

This initiative continues the trend of progressively expanding student transportation services, with recent increases in fleet size and coverage to meet the growing demand across the state.
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s focus on combining infrastructure, education, and social support programs reinforces Ondo State’s potential for socio-economic advancement, fostering a conducive environment for learning and community wellbeing.
