Orem, Utah — Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was tragically shot and killed on Wednesday while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University. Kirk was addressing a crowd of approximately 3,000 attendees during the first stop of his “American Comeback Tour” when the shooting occurred. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his wounds.
The shooting took place just after noon outdoors under a white tent at the “Prove Me Wrong” event, which was designed to invite students to challenge Kirk’s political and cultural views. Witnesses heard a single gunshot, and video footage shows Kirk clutching his neck and falling from his chair as blood streamed from the wound. Chaos erupted as attendees fled the scene.
Authorities quickly detained two individuals but later released them, confirming they were not involved in the shooting. The suspected shooter remains at large, prompting a multi-agency manhunt including the FBI.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox described the incident as a “political assassination” and expressed profound concern over the state of political discourse in the country. President Donald Trump, a close ally of Kirk, announced on social media that Kirk had died and paid tribute to his impact on American youth and conservative activism.
